The Cinema of Inclusion between vision and education

For the ability to sustain over time a gaze capable of revealing, through the portrayal of landscapes of different natures, paths of liberation and contexts of denial, by means of an astonishing command of cinematic and photographic language.

For the ability to tell, from the very beginning and through an always rigorous and surprising cinematic gaze, History and stories through the eyes of women, restoring the tensions and contradictions of a perspective too long removed or betrayed.

For the constant and unwavering ability to portray the roots of our history and our culture without rhetoric and without bearing the weight of moral judgement, keeping contradiction alive: a rich and creative space within which he has been able to depict women, resistance, death, science and religion, through an always complex portrayal of a real encounter between possible forms of reality.

Michele Placido, Julia Von Heinz, Jaco Van Dormael, Olivier Guerpillon and Michael Winterbottom with Isolation, through the creation of a constellation of visions marked by the expression of different cinematic identities, perform an act of inclusion that is indispensable to our times and to the cinema that runs through them.

For being the keeper of an independent and undivided gaze in the face of a torn reality, able to tailor onto a world in the din of catastrophe a form of redeeming harmony between living beings and the environment.

One of the first Yanomami artists to approach cinema. He trained as a director through the Video nas Aldeias project (Video in the Villages Project), a Brazilian NGO devoted to strengthening indigenous rights through audiovisual production. In his most recent film, Mãri hi – The Tree of Dream, he presents Yanomami knowledge on the interpretation of dreams through the words of the great shaman Davi Kopenawa, alongside an evocative and poetic depiction of the forest.

A constantly evolving project: for more than ten years it has crossed geographies and natural environments following the sonic traces left by poets, directors and revolutionaries, and the impact of climate change. At Isola Edipo the pieces 'Pasolini' and 'Medea' become audiovisual journeys between cinema and poetry.

A dialogue between the cinematic visions — different yet equally radical — of Céline Sciamma, Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel will offer the opportunity to explore the contemporary paths cinema can take to confront a reality flooded with the production of images and, at the same time, devoid of coherent perspectives.
